Chapter 18 - THE CONTRACT SHE SIGNEDMonths later, Valeria returned to Nebula Technologies.

The contract was still on her desk.
She had not signed it.
Adrian stood across from her.
"You can still refuse."
"I know."
"You don't have to work for me."
"I know."
"Then why are you still staring at it?"
Valeria smiled.
"Because the salary is ridiculous."
Adrian laughed.
"That's your reason?"
"One of them."
She picked up the pen.
Then paused.
"Are you sure you want me as Chief Strategic Communications Officer?"
"No."
She looked at him.
He smiled.
"I'm terrified."
"Good."
"Why?"
"Because now you understand what it's like to work with me."
He laughed again.
She signed the contract.
Then placed the pen down.
Adrian looked at the signature.
"Welcome to the executive team."
Valeria nodded.
"Thank you."
He turned to leave.
"Adrian."
He stopped.
"What?"
"One condition."
"Name it."
"No more children's tables."
He laughed.
"Never again."
But the moment was interrupted by a phone call.
Adrian answered.
His expression changed.
Valeria immediately noticed.
"What happened?"
He slowly lowered the phone.
"Elena."
"Your sister?"
"She's gone."
Valeria froze.
"What do you mean?"
"She disappeared from the safe house."
He looked at her.
"She left a message."
"What did it say?"
Adrian handed her the phone.
The message contained only six words:
I KNOW WHO ORDERED MY ABDUCTION.
Valeria looked up.
"Your uncle?"
Adrian shook his head.
"No."
"Then who?"
May you like
His face became pale.
"My mother."
