Chapter 14 - THE WEDDING CRASHESThe ballroom was chaos.
Guests ran in every direction.
Camila stood near the center of the room.
A man held a knife against her throat.
Rodrigo froze.
"Camila!"
The man smiled.
"Everyone stay where you are."
Adrian immediately stepped forward.
"Let her go."
The man looked at him.
"Your father said the same thing."
Adrian stopped.
The man was older.
His hair was gray.
But his face was unmistakable.
Adrian recognized him from childhood photographs.
His uncle.
The man who had supposedly died fifteen years ago.
The man who had been hiding behind another identity.
Adrian's mother whispered:
"Victor's father."
Adrian looked at her.
"What?"
She nodded.
"He was the one who raised Elena's captor."
The man laughed.
"You finally understand."
Valeria felt Rodrigo grab her arm.
"Stay back."
The man looked at Valeria.
"Your father was a fool."
Her face went cold.
"You killed him."
"He chose the wrong side."
Adrian stepped forward.
"You killed my father too."
The man smiled.
"Your father betrayed me."
Adrian's voice shook.
"You destroyed two families."
"No."
The man tightened his grip on Camila.
"I built an empire."
Adrian stared.
"With stolen technology."
"With intelligence."
"With murder."
The man's expression hardened.
"Words."
Valeria suddenly noticed something.
The man was not looking at Adrian.
He was looking at the contract.
The contract Adrian had given her.
She understood.
The contract contained something else.
Something the man wanted.
She leaned toward Rodrigo.
"Where is the original folder?"
Rodrigo whispered:
"With Valeria."
She nodded.
Then quietly said:
"Good."
Because the man believed he had control.

He had underestimated the woman sitting at the children's table.
