Chapter 16 - THE BROTHER'S SECRETRodrigo stared at the recording.

"No."
Adrian played it again.
Rodrigo's voice was unmistakable.
"I need the money."
The older man's voice answered:
"Then give me the access."
Rodrigo's voice:
"I can't."
"You already promised."
"I didn't know what you were planning."
"Then learn."
The recording ended.
Everyone looked at Rodrigo.
Camila stepped backward.
"Rodrigo."
He looked horrified.
"I didn't know."
Adrian's expression was cold.
"You met him."
"Yes."
"You gave him information."
"Only financial information."
"About my company."
Rodrigo closed his eyes.
"I was desperate."
Valeria stared at him.
"Why?"
He looked at her.
His face crumbled.
"Because I was bankrupt."
The room went silent.
His company had been failing for two years.
He had hidden the losses.
The luxury wedding.
The expensive clothes.
The investors.
All of it had been a performance.
He had been drowning.
And the older man had offered him money.
In exchange for information.
Rodrigo had accepted.
But he had never known the man intended to attack the family.
Valeria looked at her brother.
"You knew he was dangerous."
"I didn't."
"You knew he wanted access to Adrian's company."
"Yes."
"And you still helped him."
Rodrigo began crying.
"I thought I could fix it."
Valeria shook her head.
"You didn't want to fix it."
He looked at her.
"You wanted to look successful."
The words destroyed him.
Because they were true.
He had spent his entire life pretending to be more successful than he was.
While his sister had quietly become extraordinary.
Adrian walked toward him.
"You're going to cooperate with the investigation."
Rodrigo nodded.
"I will."
Camila removed her wedding ring.
Rodrigo stared.
"Camila."
She shook her head.
"I married a man I thought was honest."
He cried.
"I'm sorry."
She answered:
"I know."
Then she walked away.
And Rodrigo finally understood.
