Chapter 7 - The Severed Tie|

An hour later, the quiet of the ICU floor was broken by the sound of clicking high heels.

Serena stood in the doorway of Clara’s room, holding her designer handbag, her jacket draped over her arm. She looked around the room with a mix of disgust and jealousy.

"Dom," she whispered loudly. "I discharged myself. The doctor said I'm fine to go home."

Dominic didn't turn around. He remained seated beside Clara, holding her cold hand in his.

"Go home, Serena," he said, his voice completely devoid of emotion.

Serena stepped further into the room, her eyes darting to Clara’s motionless form. "Are you really going to spend the whole night sitting next to her? She doesn't even know you're here, Dom! The doctors said she's in a coma!"

Dominic slowly raised his head. When he turned to look at Serena, the cold, murderous fury in his storm-gray eyes made her freeze in her tracks.

"Get out," Dominic said softly.

Serena gasped, her lower lip trembling. "What? Dom, after everything we've been through—"

"I said get out," Dominic repeated, his voice dropping into a deadly register. "Take your things from the Michigan Avenue penthouse. By tomorrow morning, my men will clear out whatever you leave behind. You are banned from my properties, my club, and my life."

Serena’s face turned bright red with embarrassment and anger. "You can't treat me like this! You love me! She’s just your boring mafia wife!"

Dominic stood up slowly. Standing at six-foot-three, his imposing frame towered over her, radiating a lethal energy that made the air in the room freeze.

"She is my wife," Dominic growled, stepping closer until Serena had to back out into the hallway. "And if you ever speak her name again, or show your face near my world, I will make sure you vanish from Chicago entirely. Do you understand me?"

Serena swallowed hard, terror replacing her indignation. She turned on her heel and ran down the corridor, her heels echoing against the floorboards until she was gone.

Dominic closed the door quietly, returning to Clara's side.
