Chapter 11 - The Traitor's Whisper|

Lorenzo cowered against a wooden support pillar, holding his hands up in desperate surrender.
"It was a setup, Dom!" Lorenzo stammered, blood soaking through his designer trousers. "I didn't order the hit on your wife! I summoned her to the South Side because someone inside your family leaked information to me!"
Dominic’s eyes narrowed into slits. "What information?"
"Someone told me your wife was planning to leave you!" Lorenzo confessed frantically. "They said she had gathered financial records that could put you in federal prison for life! They told me if I intercepted her, I could use those records to destroy you!"
Dominic lowered his gun slightly, his mind spinning. "Who told you that?"
"I don't know his name! He used an encrypted line!" Lorenzo pleaded, tears mixing with the rain on his face. "When my men hit her car, it was supposed to be a capture, not a murder! The driver of my armored SUV panicked when he saw how badly her car crashed and fled! I swear on my mother's soul, Valente, I didn't want her dead!"
Dominic stared down at Lorenzo for three agonizing seconds.
"You tried to use my wife as leverage," Dominic said softly. "That makes you guilty enough."
Bang.
Dominic pulled the trigger.
Lorenzo slumped sideways onto the dock, motionless.
Dominic turned back toward Mateo, who was standing near the entrance of the boathouse with a dark, unreadable expression.
"He said there's a traitor inside our organization," Dominic said quietly, walking past Mateo toward the waiting SUV. "Someone who told him Clara was leaving me."
"Do you believe him, Boss?" Mateo asked, falling into step behind him.
"Clara would never go to the feds," Dominic said firmly, his voice shaking with absolute conviction. "Someone set her up. Someone wanted her dead, and they used Lorenzo to do the dirty work."

He climbed into the back seat of the armored vehicle.
"Take me back to the hospital."
