The backyard erupted in confused murmurs as the reality of the situation took hold. Tyler’s bravado evaporated instantly; he stepped back, looking frantically at his friends and relatives for support, but the cameras that had been gleefully filming my humiliation were now being turned away. The family that had been chanting for me to stand up just moments ago now stood in uncomfortable, shamed silence, their faces averted from the evidence of their own cruelty. Tyler realized he had not only failed to expose a fraud, he had incriminated himself in a felony assault.
