Chapter 12 - The VerdictDeliberations by the federal jury lasted less than four hours.

On a crisp Tuesday afternoon, the courtroom filled to capacity once more as the jury foreman stood up to deliver the verdict. Judge Robert Vance—a stern, highly respected jurist with decades on the federal bench—listened intently as the clerk read the findings.
"On Count One through Count Fifty-Two: Guilty."
Guilty on every single charge. Racketeering, money laundering, conspiracy, wire fraud, and obstruction of justice.
Dominic closed his eyes, his head dropping forward as federal marshals stepped up behind him, resting their hands heavily on his shoulders. Before the judge formally remanded him for immediate sentencing, Judge Vance granted Dominic the opportunity to address the court.
Slowly, shakily, Dominic stood up, turning his gaze toward the gallery where Norah sat. "Your Honor," Dominic spoke, his voice cracking with hollow defeat. "I built an empire from nothing. I believed I was securing a future for my family. I made mistakes... terrible mistakes. But my wife... Norah knew nothing of the deeper operations. She was merely an innocent bystander swept up in a world she didn't choose."
It was his final, cowardly attempt at manipulation—trying to paint himself as a misguided protector rather than a ruthless criminal mastermind, while simultaneously attempting to absolve himself by minimizing her intellect one last time.

Judge Vance looked down from the bench with profound judicial disdain. "Mr. Callahan, the evidence presented by federal prosecutors—and corroborated meticulously by Mrs. Callahan’s personal documentation—proves beyond any shadow of a doubt that you treated your marriage as a corporate shield and your wife as a disposable asset. Your attempt to frame her as an ignorant bystander insults the intelligence of this court."
The judge picked up his heavy mahogany gavel, letting it fall with a sharp, definitive crack. "For your crimes against the United States, this court sentences you to forty-five years in federal prison without the possibility of parole, to be served at maximum security facility ADX Florence. Court is adjourned."
