Chapter 11 - The Reckoning at the Docks

Viktor Vance’s face drained of all color in a fraction of a second as the cold steel handcuffs were slammed onto his wrists by federal agents. He struggled wildly, screaming curses across the warehouse floor. “You set me up, Mercer! This is entrapment! You don't have proof of anything!” Adrian walked slowly toward him, his boots clicking rhythmically against the concrete. He stopped inches from Vance, pulling a small encrypted flash drive from his pocket and holding it up to the syndicate boss's face. “Every financial wire transfer you made to Marcus Cole, every extortion threat recorded at the bakery, and every illegal debt-clearing scheme your organization ran over the last five years is currently being uploaded directly to the Department of Justice and the FBI field office,” Adrian whispered, his voice like the edge of a razor blade. “Your empire is dust, Viktor. And you’re going away for the rest of your natural life.” Marcus Cole, sobbing uncontrollably in handcuffs nearby, tried to plead for mercy, but federal agents dragged them both toward the waiting black-and-whites outside. As the wailing sirens faded into the cold Boston air, Adrian stood alone in the quiet warehouse for a moment, letting out a long, shuddering breath. The ghost of his past life had finally been put to rest, not with underworld violence, but with absolute, unyielding justice. He pulled out his encrypted satellite phone, dialing a single number with a hand that had finally stopped shaking. At the mansion, waiting by the secure phone line, Claire picked up on the first ring. “It’s over, Claire,” Adrian said softly, the tension completely draining from his voice. “Vance is gone. You and Lily are safe. Forever.” On the other end of the line, Claire let out a sob of pure, unadulterated relief, sliding down the wall of the study as tears of joy finally broke through her exhausted defense walls.
