Chapter 10 - The Trap is Set

Tuesday morning dawned cold and clear, bringing with it the final deadline set by Viktor Vance for midnight. True to his word, Adrian did not cower, nor did he contact the corrupt local police precincts that Vance likely had on his payroll. Instead, he executed a surgical, flawless counter-operation. Under the guise of a routine corporate merger meeting regarding the South Boston freight terminal, Adrian arranged a face-to-face summit with Marcus Cole and Viktor Vance at an abandoned, high-security shipping warehouse down by the frozen harbor docks. Vance, believing that Adrian was coming alone to sign away his empire out of fear for his nanny and daughter, arrived with a dozen armed thugs, confident that he held all the winning cards. He stepped into the cavernous, concrete-floored warehouse, laughing darkly as he saw Adrian standing alone in the center under a single swinging overhead light, holding a leather folder containing forged transfer papers. “Smart choice, Mercer!” Vance cackled, gesturing for his men to fan out and surround him. “You hand over the docks, and the chubby little nanny gets to keep changing diapers for another year.” Adrian didn’t flinch. He didn’t raise his voice. He simply stood there with his hands resting casually inside his wool coat pockets, watching Vance step closer with absolute, chilling amusement. “You made one fatal mistake, Viktor,” Adrian said calmly, his voice echoing off the concrete walls. “You thought I was protecting my business. But I was actually giving my security team enough time to sweep your entire operation.” Before Vance could process the warning, the heavy steel exit doors of the warehouse slammed shut with a deafening bang. From the shadows above, dozens of federal marshals and elite private tactical operatives dropped rappel lines, flooding the floor with blinding tactical flashlights and submachine guns leveled directly at Vance’s men. Before a single shot could be fired, Vance’s enforcers dropped their weapons, realizing they had walked straight into a meticulously baited cage.
