Chapter 22 - THE BLOODLINE
Rowan couldn't speak.
Victor Hale.
The man who had manipulated their family.
The man who had controlled the inheritance.
The man who had supposedly been helping their mother.
Rebecca was his daughter.
But there was more.
Daniel explained that Victor had discovered Rebecca's existence before she was born.
He wanted control over her inheritance.
He convinced Rowan's mother to hide the pregnancy.
When Rebecca was born, Victor arranged documents to make it appear that she didn't exist.
But Rowan's father discovered the truth.
He threatened to expose Victor.
That's when everything changed.
Rowan's mother had chosen money.
Her father had chosen his daughters.
And Rebecca had become the weapon between them.
Rowan asked the question that terrified her most.
"Where is Rebecca now?"
Daniel shook his head.
"I don't know."
"But you helped hide her."
"Yes."
"Then you must know something."
Daniel closed his eyes.
"I know where your father sent her."
Rowan stepped closer.
"Where?"
"Europe."
Her heart dropped.
"She's alive?"
Daniel didn't answer immediately.
Then he said:
"I believe she is."
Rowan began crying.
Not from sadness.
From relief.
After twenty years of believing she had lost her sister forever, there was suddenly hope.
But Daniel wasn't finished.
"There is one problem."
"What?"
"Victor knows you're looking for her."
Wells frowned.
"What can he do?"
