Chapter 20 - THE NAME ON THE WILL

Victor Hale's name appeared everywhere.
Old legal documents.
Bank records.
Property transfers.
Private contracts.
But there was one document Rowan had never seen.
An original family will.
Daniel placed it on the table.
"This is the document your father wrote before Rebecca disappeared."
Rowan opened it.
The first page looked ordinary.
Then she saw the final clause.
Her father's handwriting was unmistakable.
My daughters shall inherit equally.
Rowan looked at Daniel.
"Why did my mother control everything?"
"Because the will disappeared."
"Who stole it?"
Daniel didn't answer.
Rowan's voice became colder.
"Victor."
Daniel nodded.
"Victor forged another will."
"Why?"
"Because Rebecca's birthright was worth millions."
Rowan stared at the document.
"She was an heir."
"Yes."
"And I was?"
"You were the second heir."
Rowan slowly understood.
Their mother hadn't separated them because she hated Rebecca.
She had separated them because together, the sisters controlled everything.
A knock came at the door.
Everyone turned.
Wells opened it.
A courier stood outside.
He handed Rowan a package.
"No signature required."
Inside was a single red wine bottle.
Rowan's blood ran cold.
A small card was tied around the neck.
TO THE GIRL WHO SURVIVED.
She stared at it.
Daniel's expression changed.
"Destroy that."
"Why?"
"Because Victor is sending you a message."
Rowan looked at the bottle.
"What message?"
May you like
Daniel whispered:
"He's alive."
