Chapter 15 - The Unkillable Boss

|

Daniel Russo stood in the doorway, looking like an avenging demon from hell.

His tactical vest was shredded, soaked in blood. He had taken a bullet to the side, and his face was covered in soot, but he was very much alive. His eyes were completely black, devoid of any human mercy.

Carmine spun around in terror, his gun raised, but he was far too slow.

Daniel didn't yell. He didn't monologue. He simply raised his heavy .45 caliber handgun and fired three rapid, deafening shots.

The bullets struck Carmine perfectly in the chest. The traitor was thrown backward by the sheer force of the impact, collapsing onto the concrete floor, dead before his body even settled.

Daniel dropped his gun and sprinted across the room, falling to his knees beside Norah.

"Are you hit?" Daniel demanded frantically, his bloody hands hovering over her, afraid to touch her and cause her pain. "Norah, look at me. Are you hit?"

"I'm okay," Norah gasped, sitting up and throwing her arms around his neck, burying her face in his shoulder. "Carmine told me you were dead."

"I am a very difficult man to kill," Daniel murmured fiercely, wrapping his arms tightly around her, holding her against his chest as if he would never let her go. "I told you I would come back for you."

He pulled away slightly, looking into her eyes. The adrenaline was fading, leaving him pale and breathing heavily.

"The Falcone hit squad?" Norah asked, looking at his bleeding side.

"Dead," Daniel confirmed, his voice rough. "My loyalists secured the house. Don Falcone is currently being held at gunpoint in my study by Matteo. The war is over, Norah. We won."

He helped her to her feet, supporting her weight as they walked out of the bunker, leaving the traitor's body behind.

They walked up the stairs and into the grand foyer. The estate was a disaster zone. The marble floors were covered in glass and blood, the walls riddled with bullet holes. It looked exactly like the warzone it had become.

But as they walked through the destruction, the surviving guards stopped what they were doing and bowed their heads respectfully. Not just to Daniel, but to Norah.

They walked into the study.

Don Dominic Falcone sat in a leather chair, surrounded by four of Daniel's heavily armed men. The arrogant old mafia boss looked defeated, his empire entirely crumbled in a single night of violent retribution.

Daniel stood in front of him, his hand resting securely on Norah's waist.

"You lost, Dominic," Daniel said coldly. "Your men are dead. Your daughter will spend the rest of her life in a federal prison for attempted murder. And you are going to sign over every remaining asset of the Falcone syndicate to my family, or you will not leave this room alive."

Falcone glared at Daniel, then looked at Norah. "You destroyed my family over a fake fiancé."

Daniel smiled, a dark, terrifying expression of absolute victory.

"She isn't fake," Daniel said softly, pulling Norah closer. "She is the Queen of Chicago. And you just gave her your crown."
