Chapter 10 - Blood on the Marble

|
Isabella shrieked, a high-pitched sound of agony, as the gun fired wildly. The suppressed bullet shattered the massive mirror above the sinks, raining glass down on them.
The mafia princess stumbled backward, clutching her bleeding, broken nose, dropping the weapon.
Norah didn't wait for her to recover. She kicked the handgun under the bathroom stalls, grabbed Isabella by her expensive red dress, and shoved her violently against the marble wall.
"I'm not a fake fiancé," Norah snarled, her adrenaline completely taking over, pressing her forearm aggressively against Isabella's throat. "I'm the woman who knocked Daniel Russo out to save his life. Do you really think you scare me?"
Isabella gasped for air, her eyes wide with sudden, genuine terror as blood streamed down her face, ruining her perfect makeup.
Before Isabella could answer, the heavy wooden door to the bathroom exploded inward.
Daniel stood in the doorway, his weapon drawn, his eyes wild and murderous. Carmine and two other guards piled in behind him, securing the room in a fraction of a second.
Daniel took in the scene—the shattered mirror, the dropped gun, and his fake fiancé pinning the daughter of his greatest enemy against the wall.
He lowered his weapon, staring at Norah in absolute shock.
"Are you hurt?" Daniel demanded, his voice rough.
"I'm fine," Norah breathed heavily, slowly releasing her grip on Isabella and stepping back. "She tried to shoot me. She knows I'm a fake."
Daniel’s eyes darkened into a terrifying, lethal storm. He walked slowly toward Isabella, who was sobbing and clutching her bloody face, sliding down the marble wall until she sat on the floor.
"You brought a weapon into a truce meeting," Daniel said coldly, towering over the crying woman. "You attempted to murder my future wife."
"She's a fake!" Isabella sobbed, pointing a shaking finger at Norah. "She's nobody!"
"She is a Russo," Daniel roared, the sound echoing violently in the small room. "And you just gave me the excuse I needed."
Daniel grabbed Isabella by the hair, dragging her roughly to her feet. He didn't care about the blood ruining his tuxedo. He hauled her out of the bathroom and dragged her straight into the main ballroom.
The gala instantly stopped. The music died.

Daniel threw Isabella onto the dance floor, right at the feet of her father, Don Falcone.
"Your daughter brought a weapon into the gala and attempted to execute my fiancé," Daniel announced, his voice booming across the silent room. He pointed his gun directly at the old man's chest. "The truce is dead. The war starts tonight."
