Chapter 6 - The Fall of Marcus|

Marcus let out a raspy, desperate laugh, his face turning bright red as he clawed at my wrists.

"You... you idiot, Dante!" Marcus wheezed out. "I did it for the company! You were forty years old! The board was threatening to replace you because you had no family, no stability! I saved your position!"

"You tried to ruin the woman I love to control my board," I said coldly.

I released his lapels, letting him collapse onto his knees on the plush carpet, coughing violently as he clutched his throat.

I walked over to my desk, picked up my desk phone, and pressed the intercom button.

"Security," I commanded smoothly. "Escort Mr. Vance off the premises. He is barred from all Moretti Global properties nationwide."

"Dante! You can't do this!" Marcus shrieked from the floor, scrambling to his feet as two broad-shouldered security officers pushed open the office doors. "Your marriage is a farce! She only stayed with you because her father owed thirty million dollars!"

"She stayed with me because she loved me, Marcus," I said, looking down at him with utter contempt. "Something a snake like you will never understand."

The security guards seized Marcus by his arms, dragging him out through the glass doors as his desperate screams echoed down the marble hallway.

I sat down in my leather armchair, resting my elbows on the desk, my hands trembling slightly as the adrenaline slowly ebbed away.

I pulled out my private phone and dialed Alina’s number.

She answered on the first ring.

May you like

"Dante?" her voice came through the line, soft, anxious, and breathless.

"Alina," I said, my tone softening instantly. "Pack your bags. We're going away for a few days."
