Chapter 5 - The Confrontation in the Tower|

At seven-fifteen that morning, the glass doors of Moretti Global Holdings on Michigan Avenue slid open.

I walked through the executive floor, my black coat buttoned tight, my expression so terrifyingly dark that three vice presidents backed away from the water cooler without saying a word.

Marcus Vance was standing in my corner office, holding an iPad and a cup of black coffee, looking out over the Chicago skyline.

"Dante!" Marcus smiled, turning around. "You look grim for a man who’s about to reclaim his single status. Did the legal team—"

I didn't let him finish.

I walked up to his desk, grabbed the lapels of his three-thousand-dollar tailored jacket, and slammed him backward against the floor-to-ceiling glass window.

THUD!

Marcus gasped, his coffee cup crashing onto the carpet, his iPad clattering against the glass.

"Dante! What the hell are you doing?!" Marcus panicked, struggling against my iron grip.

"Three years ago," I growled, my face inches from his, my gray eyes burning with pure, unadulterated venom. "You leaked the internal supply chain reports of Vance Manufacturing to their overseas competitors. You created their debt crisis, Marcus. And then you suggested to my board that I marry Alina to save their firm."

Marcus’s face went entirely white. His eyes darted frantically toward the closed office door.

"You... you can't prove that," Marcus choked out.

"I don't need to prove it in court, Marcus," I whispered, tightening my grip until his air was cut off. "I own seventy percent of the voting shares in this firm. By noon today, your security clearance is revoked, your stock options are frozen, and the federal auditors will be sitting in your private office."
