Chapter 8 - Confronting the DistanceA month after she had left, Lena drove back to the ranch.

As her old blue truck pulled up the gravel drive, Ethan and Mason were waiting on the porch. Mason sprinted down the wooden steps the moment her car door opened, throwing his arms around her waist.

"Lena! You came back!" Mason cried joyfully.

Lena held the young boy tightly, tears of happiness rising in her eyes. "I missed you so much, sweetie."

When she stood up and met Ethan's gaze, the air around them charged with quiet intensity. Ethan walked down the steps slowly, his gaze fixed entirely on her. He wore a simple dark shirt, his eyes full of warmth and devotion.

"Welcome home, Lena," Ethan said softly.
