Chapter 3 - Whispers of the PastDetermined to find answers, Ethan began searching through old administrative files in his office to find Lena’s emergency contact details. Among her tax forms, he found a folded brochure for a coastal resort town three hours south, near a quiet tropical cove. A small hand-drawn star was marked next to a boutique beachfront café.

The next morning, Ethan made a decision. He packed a bag, asked Maria to look after Mason for two days, and drove south toward the coast. The drive was filled with heavy silence as thoughts of Lena consumed his mind.

Arriving at the coastal town, the air felt warm and humid, filled with the scent of salt water and distant rain. He walked along the cobblestone paths near the shore, scanning every outdoor café and small shop.

Near the end of the promenade, where the palm trees arched over the wet pavement, he saw her.

Lena was standing under the overhang of a open-air pavilion, watching the gentle tropical rain fall onto the tiles. She looked stunning. Her long blonde hair was damp, falling in soft waves over her shoulders. She wore a striking red wrap top and a flowing white skirt with a high slit, a dramatic departure from the simple jeans and work shirts she had always worn at the ranch.

Beside her stood Ethan—unannounced, his heart pounding in his chest. He wore a damp purple linen shirt, his dark hair messy from the humidity.

When Lena turned and saw him standing there, her eyes widened in complete disbelief.
