Chapter 5 - Truths Unveiled in the Rain"Four years, Ethan," Lena said, her voice trembling as tears mixed with the raindrops on her cheeks. "Four years I stood fifty yards away from your door, watching you live in the shadow of your past. I loved Mason like my own son. I loved you silently every single day. But you looked right through me."

Ethan felt a sharp ache in his chest. He reached out, his warm fingers gently touching her bare arm. The contrast of the cool rain and his warm touch made her gasp softly.

"I locked my heart away when Sarah died," Ethan confessed softly, leaning closer. "I told myself that caring about anyone else was a risk I couldn't take. I used work and responsibility as a shield. But when you walked out that door, I realized my shield was keeping me from the only light I had left."

Lena stared at him, her chest rising and falling with heavy breaths. The vibrant red of her top and the soft white of her skirt seemed to glow under the dim pavilion light. Ethan looked down at her with unfiltered desire and regret.

"Give me a chance to see you properly," Ethan murmured, his thumb gently wiping a tear from her cheek. "Don't hide from me anymore."

For the first time in four years, the invisible barrier between them completely shattered.
