Chapter 5 - THE FALL OF THE KING

The laughter inside the boardroom died instantly.
Ivan stood at the head of the mahogany table, holding a laser pointer toward a projected slide of the new city development project. His face lit up with annoyance when he saw the door open, which quickly twisted into absolute horror when he saw me standing beside Marcus Vance.
“Elena?” Ivan stammered, dropping the pointer onto the table. It clattered loudly against the wood. “What the hell are you doing here? Security! Get her out of this building immediately!”
Not a single security guard outside the door moved. They had already received my updated personnel directive.
“Sit down, Ivan,” I said, my voice cutting through the silent room like a razor blade. I walked toward the head of the table, pulling off my sunglasses.
“You psychotic bitch!” Ivan roared, losing all semblance of corporate composure. He rushed around the table, his face flushing a furious crimson. “You ruined my barbecue, you humiliated my mother, and now you’re crashing a board meeting? I am the CEO of this company! Guards, drag her out!”
“You were the CEO,” Marcus corrected calmly, stepping forward and slamming the freshly printed termination packet onto the mahogany table right in front of Ivan.
Ivan stared at the paper, his hands trembling as he flipped the pages. “What is this? You can't fire me! My name is on the building!”
“Your name is on the lease, Ivan,” I said, pulling out a legal folder and sliding the trust documentation across the table. “And my family’s trust owns the building, the patents, and fifty-eight percent of the voting stock. Furthermore, federal investigators have already received the audit trail of your embezzlement fund.”
The city council representatives sitting at the side of the table stood up quickly, grabbing their briefcases. “If there’s an ongoing federal investigation into embezzlement, Vanguard Development is disqualified from the municipal contract,” the lead representative stated coldly. “We are withdrawing our bid.”
“Wait! Please, gentlemen, this is a domestic dispute, a misunderstanding!” Ivan pleaded, desperation cracking his voice as he lunged toward them.

“Get out of my way,” the representative spat, shoving past him.
Within sixty seconds, the boardroom emptied of every guest, client, and executive, leaving only Ivan, Marcus, and me.
