Chapter 13 - BUILDING A NEW FOUNDATION

Six months later, spring had returned to the city, bringing blooming cherry blossoms, warm sunshine, and a renewed sense of life.
Aether Holdings was thriving under my leadership. We had just closed the fiscal quarter with record-breaking profits, securing major sustainable architecture contracts across the country. The toxic culture Ivan had fostered was entirely gone, replaced by an inclusive, dynamic, and forward-thinking corporate family that truly valued collaboration and mutual respect.
My personal life had blossomed just as brilliantly.
David and I had moved into a gorgeous, sunlit modern home overlooking the river—a house I bought entirely in my own name, designed with wide open spaces, peaceful gardens, and zero outdoor grills.
On a bright Saturday morning, David and I stood in our sun-drenched kitchen, preparing a quiet weekend brunch together. Sliced strawberries, fresh pastries, and artisanal coffee filled the kitchen island. There was no stress, no screaming mother-in-law demanding service, and no abusive husband trying to diminish my worth.
David walked up behind me while I was plating the fruit, wrapping his strong, comforting arms around my waist and resting his chin gently on my shoulder.
“Smells incredible,” David whispered against my neck, kissing my cheek softly. “And I notice zero spatulas or overturned tables in sight.”
I laughed, leaning back into his embrace and turning around in his arms to wrap my hands around his neck. “Hey, my spatula skills were legendary. They just lacked proper target audience management.”

David chuckled, his eyes filled with a deep, adoring warmth that never failed to make my heart flutter. “You’re an incredible woman, Elena. Stronger than anyone I’ve ever known.”
“I had a lot of practice,” I smiled gently. “And an even better partner to help me rebuild.”
