THE GLASS PRISON / Chapter 5 / 10

Chapter 5 - The Night of the SwapThe sound was like a rifle shot echoing through the marble hallways.

Several guests turned their heads toward the open dressing room door at the rear of the chapel.

Inside the room, the ancient mirror was glowing with a harsh, emerald-green light. Wide, web-like cracks spread rapidly across the heavy glass surface.

Inside the mirror, Lily felt a sudden surge of ancient power rushing through her veins. She pressed both hands against the cracked glass, her voice finally breaking through the enchantment:

“WILLIAMS! LOOK AT HER WRIST! SHE IS NOT LILY!”

The sound rushed out of the mirror as a physical shockwave, blowing the dressing room doors wide open and blasting a gust of icy wind straight down the center aisle of the chapel!

Candles flickered out. The floral arrangements swayed wildly. Guests gasped in terror as the chapel temperature plummeted toward freezing.

Williams dropped Brenda’s hands, taking a step back. “What was that?!”

Brenda’s face twisted in panic. “Nothing, d-darling! It’s just the wind! Let’s finish the vows quickly!”

“That wasn't wind,” Williams said, his voice dropping into a deadly, authoritative register.

He turned away from the altar and began walking down the center aisle toward the glowing room at the back.
