THE GLASS PRISON / Chapter 3 / 10

Chapter 3 - The Double IdentityNow, standing at the altar, Brenda—looking identical to Lily—held Williams’ hands.

Williams looked down into her eyes, but a subtle, instinctual knot tightened in his chest. The eyes looking back at him were Lily’s shape and color, but the warmth, the soft light he had fallen in love with, was entirely missing.

“You look breathtaking, Lily,” Williams murmured softly, his voice trembling slightly.

“I am yours forever, Williams,” Brenda replied, her voice an exact match for Lily’s, yet carrying an unnatural, metallic resonance.

In the back of the ballroom, mounted against the wall behind an open dressing room door, the ancient mirror began to vibrate.

Inside the glass, Lily pounded desperately against the barrier. Tears streamed down her face as she looked at her hands. The mirror was cracking beneath her knuckles, but behind her, the dark shadow was growing larger, its glowing white eyes staring into her soul.

A raspy, ancient voice echoed inside Lily’s mind:

“She used blood to bind you, child... but she did not know the law of the glass. The mirror does not give a life without taking one in return. Before the final vow is spoken, the mirror will demand its debt.”

Lily looked at the shadowy figure in the glass. “Who are you?!”

“I am the guardian bound by your grandmother’s lineage, Lily,” the spirit whispered. “You are the true blood descendant of the mirror’s creator. Brenda’s grandmother was merely a thief who stole the frame. You hold the power to shatter the glass.”
