“What is the meaning of this?” Grant snapped in a low, furious voice. “Audrey, you were not invited onto the VIP floor. And you—” he glared at Adam “—you don’t belong in this building.”
Adam looked down at Grant, completely unfazed by the billionaire’s rage. “I’m here as the legal custodian of the Matthew Holloway Estate Trust, Whitmore.”
“You’re a glorified plumber in a rented suit!” Grant sneered, signaling his security guards. “Guards, escort these people out of the building immediately!”
“Touch them, and you’ll be committing federal obstruction of justice, Mister Whitmore,” a commanding voice boomed from the back of the room.
Pete Marsh stepped forward, accompanied by two uniformed officers from the State Financial Crimes Unit and three federal prosecutors.
The entire ballroom went dead silent.
Pete walked up to the main podium, unzipping a leather portfolio and placing the original oilskin-bound ledger onto the glass presentation screen.
