Chapter 6 - Shadows at the GalaAdam stepped out of the van, blocking the entrance with his heavy frame. “You need a police warrant to search my work truck, pal.”

Vance sneered, stepping closer. “We don’t need a warrant on private development grounds, handyman. Hand over whatever Matthew Holloway left in that apartment, or you’ll find your repair business shut down by municipal inspectors by noon.”
Before Vance could take another step, Audrey stepped out of the passenger side, holding her smartphone high in the air, live-streaming the encounter directly to her social media account.
“Go ahead, Vance,” Audrey said, her voice dripping with ice. “Tell my ten thousand followers how Grant Whitmore’s security team is harassing a local business owner outside corporate headquarters.”
Vance glared at the phone screen, seeing the live view count rising rapidly. He took a slow step back, his teeth gritted in frustration.
“This isn't over, Ms. Holloway,” Vance muttered, signaling his men to retreat toward their black SUV. “Mister Whitmore will see you at the gala tomorrow night. Make sure you dress appropriately for your final appearance as a shareholder.”
Once the SUV pulled away into traffic, Audrey let out a long breath, lowering her phone.
Adam turned to her, a rare, genuine smile crossing his handsome face. “That was quick thinking.”

Audrey looked up at him, her dark eyes shining with newfound confidence. “I told you, Adam. I’m done letting men like Grant Whitmore intimidate my family.”
Adam reached out, his large, warm hand gently taking hers. “Tomorrow night, we finish this.”
