THE FRAMEWORK OF TRUTH / Chapter 4 / 10

Chapter 4 - What the Ledger RevealedThe three of them sat on the floor around the lantern light as Audrey read the letter aloud in a quiet, breathless voice:

“To my daughters, Audrey and Paige—

If you are reading this, it means Arthur Whitmore has done what I always feared he would do once I was no longer there to stop him. Holloway & Whitmore was never meant to be a machine for greed. The true ownership certificates for the 1,200-acre Riverfront Preserve and the 30% voting rights are held in this ledger, independent of the corporate servers.

Arthur created a shadow subsidiary—Whitmore Global Investments—to siphon corporate assets away from the company. The fire at the headquarters was no accident. He burned the archives to hide his theft.

Keep these papers safe. They are the truth. They are your legacy.”

Paige sat back against her bed, stunned. “The fire... Arthur Whitmore set the fire himself.”

Adam picked up the leather-bound journal, flipping through pages filled with meticulous financial entries, bank account numbers, dates, and fraudulent wire transfers signed directly by Arthur Whitmore and his son, Grant Whitmore.

“This isn't just proof of ownership,” Adam said, his eyes scanning the columns of numbers. “This is evidence of a ten-year, multi-million-dollar corporate embezzlement scheme.”

Audrey looked up at Adam, her dark eyes wide with a mix of shock and profound gratitude. “Grant didn't just want my family’s shares... he knew my father hid something before he died. He’s been searching for this ledger for five years.”

“That’s why Grant was so angry when he saw me fixing this bed frame,” Adam realized, his jaw setting tight. “He knew the frame came from Matthew’s old studio. He was planning to buy out your apartment building just to get his hands on the furniture.”

Audrey reached out, her hand resting over Adam’s calloused fingers. The touch was warm, sending a quiet wave of heat through his chest.

“You saved us, Adam,” she said softly.

Adam looked into her eyes, his steady gaze holding hers. “We’re not done yet, Audrey. Having proof is one thing. Using it to tear down a billionaire’s empire is another.”
