The Investigation

ACT 5 – The Investigation
The attorney took a deep breath.
"There is something else you need to know."
He opened a thick file that had remained sealed until now.
"Three months before Jonathan passed away..."
"...he hired a private investigator."
Sarah looked up.
"Why?"
The attorney answered quietly.
"Jonathan had been diagnosed with an aggressive brain condition."
"There was no cure."
"He knew he didn't have much time left."
Instead of spending his final months expanding his business...
Or traveling the world...
Jonathan chose to search for one person.
Sarah Carter.
The investigation lasted weeks.
Most records had disappeared.
Old addresses were abandoned.
Phone numbers no longer existed.
The investigator found almost nothing.
Until one day...
A hospital record appeared.
Patient Name:
Ethan Carter
Date of Birth.
Medical History.
Blood Type.
And one heartbreaking diagnosis.
Dilated cardiomyopathy.
Jonathan read every page himself.
According to the attorney, he didn't say a single word for several minutes.
Then he looked up.
"Find out if he's on the transplant list."
When the investigator confirmed that Ethan desperately needed a new heart...
Jonathan made a decision.
He immediately instructed his legal team to prepare every necessary document.
If his organs were suitable for donation...
His heart was to be offered to Ethan first, provided they were medically compatible and consistent with transplant regulations.
The attorney looked at Sarah.
"He didn't do it because Ethan was a sick child."
"He did it because..."
"He believed Ethan was his son."
Jonathan never had proof.

Only hope.
But that hope was enough for him to make the greatest gift he could ever give.
