The Boy Who Was Running Out of Time

ACT 1 – The Boy Who Was Running Out of Time

Ten years old.

That was the age when most children dreamed about summer vacations, soccer games, and what they wanted to be when they grew up.

But Ethan Carter wasn't dreaming about the future.

He was fighting to survive another day.

Ethan had been born with dilated cardiomyopathy, a rare heart condition that left his heart too weak to pump blood properly.

By the time he was eight, he couldn't run without gasping for air.

At nine, he needed an oxygen tank just to leave the house.

Now, at ten years old...

Even sitting up in bed exhausted him.

The children's hospital had become his second home.

The nurses knew he loved superhero comics.

The doctors admired how he smiled through every blood test and every painful procedure.

But behind every hopeful face was the same heartbreaking truth.

Ethan was running out of time.

One afternoon, the chief cardiologist asked Ethan's mother to step into his office.

Sarah Carter quietly sat down.

Dark circles surrounded her tired eyes.

She hadn't had a full night's sleep in months.

The doctor took a deep breath.

"Ethan's condition is getting worse."

"If we don't find a matching heart within the next few weeks..."

He hesitated.

"I'm afraid there's nothing more we can do."

Sarah lowered her head.

She didn't cry.

Maybe because she'd already cried too many times.

Sarah was a single mother.

She worked as a supermarket cashier during the day.

She waited tables in the evening.

And after midnight, she cleaned office buildings.

Three jobs.

Sixteen hours a day.

Every dollar she earned went toward keeping her son alive.

Every night after work, she rushed straight to the hospital.

Sometimes she fell asleep beside Ethan's bed, still wearing her work uniform.

One evening, Ethan reached for her hand.

"Mom..."

"I'm here."

"If I don't get better..."

Sarah gently shook her head.

"Don't say that."

"Would you be really sad?"

She hugged him tightly.

"You are going to be okay."

"I'll do whatever it takes."

But deep inside...

She no longer knew if miracles were real.

Three days later.

2:17 a.m.

The transplant coordinator's phone rang.

Within seconds, the entire cardiac unit was awake.

A donor heart had become available.

The surgeon answered immediately.

"How good is the match?"

The voice on the other end replied,

"Almost perfect."

The doctor paused.

"Who's the donor?"

There was a brief silence.

Then came the answer.

"Jonathan Hale."

The room fell silent.

Jonathan Hale.

Fifty-three years old.

Founder and CEO of Hale Industries.

One of the wealthiest and most respected billionaires in America.

Just hours earlier, he had died from a massive brain hemorrhage.

Years before his death, he had registered as an organ donor.

His final wish was simple.

"If I can't live... let someone else."

Within minutes, the hospital became a race against time.

A helicopter transported the donor heart.

The operating room was prepared.

Surgeons assembled.

A nurse gently woke Sarah.

"We have a heart for Ethan."

For several seconds...

She couldn't speak.

Then she burst into tears.

Not tears of despair.

But tears of hope.

The transplant surgery lasted nearly eight hours.

Sarah never left the waiting room.

She didn't eat.

She didn't sleep.

She simply prayed.

Finally...

The operating room doors opened.

The lead surgeon removed his mask.

And smiled.

"The transplant was successful."

Sarah collapsed into tears as the nurses embraced her.

The next morning, headlines spread across the country.

"Ten-Year-Old Boy Saved by Billionaire's Donated Heart."

The media called it a miracle.

May you like

But no one knew...

The miracle was only the beginning.
