Chapter 4 - The Locked Cage"You're not leaving this building tonight," Dante stated flatly, turning back to face her as Marcus hurried out to execute his orders.

Elena stiffened. "I have a home. I need to go back."
"Your apartment is currently being watched by three Varga hitmen," Dante replied smoothly, tossing a set of digital security keys onto the obsidian desk. "Unless you have a death wish, you'll be staying in the penthouse suite upstairs."
"I am not your prisoner, Mr. Moretti," Elena protested, crossing her arms.
"You're my lead financial auditor, and more importantly, you're a liability standing on my floor with enemy blood on your shoe," Dante countered, his voice brooking no argument. "Consider it protective custody. Marcus will show you to your quarters."
Before Elena could argue further, the heavy oak doors opened again, and a sharp-featured woman in a tailored black suit entered the room.
"Boss, the shipment from Marseille has cleared customs," the woman announced, pausing when she noticed Elena. Her eyes darted to the blood on Elena's shoe with professional indifference.
"Victoria, escort Ms. Vance to the executive suite on the twentieth floor," Dante instructed, sitting back down behind his desk. "Make sure she has everything she needs. And have security bring her a clean pair of shoes."

Elena glared at Dante across the room. "This won't work, you know. I'm not intimidated by you."
Dante smiled—a cold, mesmerizing expression that made her stomach flip in ways she hated to admit. "We'll see about that, Ms. Vance. Get some rest. Tomorrow, we start digging into the Varga ledgers together."
