Chapter 9 - The True Celebration

One year after the morning of the shears, the garden at the estate was in full, breathtaking bloom.

Hundreds of white and blush-pink roses climbed along the stone pergolas, filling the warm summer air with a sweet, timeless perfume. Fairy lights were suspended between the ancient oak trees, and fifty of our closest friends, family members, and longtime neighbors gathered on the flagstone terrace.

There were no high-society photographers, no superficial registry demands, and no forced smiles.

Clara stood beneath the white floral arch in an elegant, simple silk chiffon wedding gown, her hazel eyes shining with happy tears as she looked at Daniel.

Daniel stood opposite her in a black tuxedo, looking at his bride with pure, unreserved devotion.

When Father Thomas asked for the rings, Daniel turned toward me.

I walked up to the altar steps, dressed in an emerald-green silk dress, my silver hair styled in soft, radiant waves that brushed my shoulders. I carried the velvet box containing the wedding bands.

Clara turned to me, taking both of my hands in hers before taking the ring.

"Thank you, Evelyn," Clara whispered, her voice full of warmth and respect. "Thank you for welcoming me into your heart and into this beautiful family."

"You were always meant to be here, Clara," I replied softly, kissing her cheek.

When Daniel and Clara exchanged their vows and sealed their union with a tender kiss, the small, loving gathering erupted into heartfelt cheers and applause.

As I stood beside the rose bushes Thomas had planted thirty years ago, I felt a deep, profound sense of peace. The storm had passed, the weeds had been cleared from our lives, and in their place, a garden of true love had taken root.
