Chapter 7 - The Boardroom Repercussions

On Monday morning at 9:00 AM, Victor Miller arrived unannounced at Daniel's corporate headquarters in downtown San Francisco.

Victor was a proud, sixty-year-old commercial real estate developer who had always catered to his daughter's every whim. But when he walked into Daniel’s executive suite, his posture was stooped, his face gray with exhaustion.

Daniel sat behind his broad walnut desk, flanked by his corporate legal counsel.

"Daniel," Victor began, his voice hoarse as he set his briefcase on a side chair. "I saw the footage."

Daniel kept his expression completely neutral. "Then you know why there will never be an apology, and why there will never be a reconciliation."

"I am not here to defend Vanessa," Victor said, his voice breaking with genuine shame. "I raised a monster. Her mother and I gave her everything she ever asked for, and we turned her into a cruel, entitled sociopath. When I saw what she did to your mother—a woman who welcomed her into her home—I felt sicker than I’ve ever felt in my life."

Victor slid a leather document folder across the desk.

"What is this?" Daniel asked.

"A formal release of all claims against your company, and a deed of transfer for the land parcel adjacent to your mother's botanical sanctuary in Sonoma," Victor said softly. "I know land cannot repay the dignity she violated. But I want your mother to know that our family is profoundly, permanently ashamed."

Daniel looked at the older man for a long moment, seeing the genuine grief of a father who had realized his failure too late.

"Take the land deed back, Victor," Daniel said calmly. "My mother does not accept gifts derived from shame. Pay your restitution fees to the Women's Shelter of Northern California, and ensure your daughter stays on the East Coast."

Victor nodded slowly, wiping his eyes before walking out of the boardroom in silence.
