Chapter 20 - The Unwritten Horizon|

The autumn sun broke over Lake Michigan, casting a brilliant, golden glare across the terrace of the Valon estate.
Isa stood near the stone balustrade, wearing a soft white cashmere robe, holding a steaming cup of coffee in her hands, looking out at the endless horizon where the sky met the dark water.
Footsteps sounded on the stone terrace behind her.
Rhett walked out, wearing a dark silk robe, his chest bare, his hair slightly messy from sleep. He walked up behind her, sliding his broad arms around her waist, pulling her back against his warmth.
He rested his chin softly on her shoulder, taking a slow, deep breath of her scent.
"What are you thinking about?" Rhett whispered into her ear.
Isa turned her head slightly, looking at her reflection in the glass balcony door—at the black diamond ring sparkling on her finger, and the powerful man holding her as if she were the most precious object in the universe.
"I was thinking about a rainy Tuesday at 3:17 in the afternoon," Isa murmured softly, resting her hand over his on her waist.
Rhett's grip tightened slightly, his gray eyes darkening with an eternal, unwavering devotion.
"That rainy Tuesday was the day my life began, Isa," Rhett whispered raspy, leaning down to kiss her jawline. "Before that day, I was just a man running a dark world. After that day... I had something worth burning the world for."
Isa smiled, turning in his arms, raising her face to his as his lips claimed hers once more under the bright morning sun.

Far out on the water, the shipping vessels of Valon Global moved peacefully across the blue waves, cutting through the light toward an open, sunlit horizon that belonged entirely to them.
The storm had passed. The blood was washed away. And the King and Queen of Chicago were home.
