Chapter 19 - The Legacy|

At midnight, the black armored SUV glided smoothly through the wrought-iron gates of the North Shore estate.

The night was clear and cool, a bright autumn moon reflecting off the quiet blue waters of Lake Michigan.

Rhett helped Isa out of the vehicle, his arm wrapped firmly around her waist as they walked up the wide marble steps into the warm foyer.

The estate was quiet, filled with the scent of fresh white roses and woodsmoke from the hearths.

Isa slipped off her silver heels, standing barefoot on the plush Persian rug, leaning her head back against Rhett's broad chest as he wrapped both arms around her from behind.

"Are you tired, my Queen?" Rhett whispered into her dark hair, his hands resting gently over her stomach.

Isa smiled, turning in his arms, wrapping her arms around his neck, looking up into his storm-gray eyes.

"I'm never tired when I'm with you, Rhett," she murmured.

Rhett looked down at her face—at the clear, luminous skin that showed no trace of the violence that had brought her to his arms six months ago.

He leaned down, pressing a tender, lingering kiss against her lips.

"Tomorrow," Rhett murmured against her mouth, "we finalize the purchase of the new shipping terminals in Miami."

"I've already reviewed the contracts," Isa smiled, winking at him. "The seller accepted our terms twenty minutes ago."

Rhett let out a rich, deep laugh, scooping her into his arms, carrying her up the grand marble staircase toward their master suite under the warm chandelier light.

The assistant who had arrived every morning at 7:00 was now the woman who ruled an empire beside the man who loved her.
