Chapter 15 - The Final Confrontation|

Isa leaned back in her high-backed leather chair, staring at the man who had almost beaten her to death two weeks ago.

She felt no fear. Sitting in this sleek, glass office, backed by the full power of the Valon empire, she looked at Tyler Cain and saw only a small, broken coward.

"Tyler," she said, her voice cool and devoid of all emotion.

Tyler looked up at her, his lips trembling as his eyes took in her pristine charcoal dress, her glowing skin, and the utter authority she projected behind her marble desk.

"Isa..." Tyler stammered, his voice cracking hysterically. "Please... you have to help me... you have to tell him to stop..."

"Tell who to stop, Tyler?" she asked calmly.

"Valon!" Tyler sobbed, dropping to his knees near the door, clutching his bandaged hand against his chest. "He ruined my father! My father disappeared two weeks ago! The banks seized our house! The federal marshals took everything! I have nothing left, Isa! I'm living in a motel!"

Isa didn't flinch. She leaned her forearms on her desk, looking down at him from above.

"You broke into my apartment, Tyler," Isa said softly, every word cut like diamond. "You beat me until I couldn't stand. You thought because I lived in Pilsen and worked a job, I was helpless."

"I was crazy! I was drunk!" Tyler wept, bowing his head to the carpet. "I'm sorry! I swear to God I'm sorry! Just tell Rhett Valon not to kill me! Please!"

The private side door of her office opened quietly.

Rhett stepped into the room.

He wore his dark suit coat, his broad shoulders filling the doorway, his gray eyes fixed on the man weeping on the carpet like a predator evaluating a rat.

Tyler looked up, saw Rhett standing there, and let out a soundless gasp of pure terror, scrambling backward until his back hit the glass wall.

Rhett didn't draw a gun. He didn't say a word. He simply walked over to Isa's desk, stopping beside her chair, resting his large palm flat on the marble surface.

Isa reached out, sliding her small hand over his, locking her fingers with his in plain view of the broken man on the floor.

Tyler's eyes went wide as saucers as he saw their joined hands.

"Get out of my office, Tyler," Isa said, her voice ringing with absolute, unbreakable power. "If I ever see your face again, I won't stop him."

Tyler scrambled to his feet, threw open the glass doors, and sprinted down the hallway toward the elevators like a man fleeing hell itself.
