Chapter 16 - The Penthouse Sanctuary|

Silence returned to the forty-second floor.

Isa stood up from her chair, turning to face Rhett.

Rhett looked down at her, his storm-gray eyes holding a rare, soft warmth as he reached out, his long fingers gently caressing her cheek.

"You handled that well, Vice President Voss," Rhett murmured softly.

Isa smiled, leaning her face into his warm palm. "I learned from the best."

Rhett pulled her close against his broad chest, wrapping his heavy arms around her waist, burying his face in her dark hair.

"The city is clean, Isa," Rhett whispered into her hair. "The port concessions are ours. The Cain family is gone. There are no more shadows."

"Then take me home, Rhett," she whispered back, wrapping her arms around his neck. "To your estate."

That evening, the North Shore estate was illuminated by golden floodlights, casting long shadows across the green lawns and ancient oaks.

In the master suite on the second floor, a soft fire crackled in the hearth, painting the room in shades of amber and deep red.

Isa lay on the silk sheets, wearing a soft white silk robe, her dark hair spread across the pillows.

Rhett sat on the edge of the bed beside her, his shirt unbuttoned, his gray eyes searching her face with an absolute, unshakeable devotion.

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box.

Isa's breath caught in her throat. "Rhett...?"

Rhett opened the box.

Inside sat a breathtaking, flawless four-carat black diamond ring, set in platinum, glowing under the firelight like a dark star.

"Three years ago, you walked into my office," Rhett said, his deep voice trembling slightly with raw emotion. "And today, you run my world. I don't just want you in my company, Isa. I want you in my name."
