Chapter 18 - The Birth of an Heir|

Four hours later, inside the fully equipped medical room built into the back of the cottage, the sound of a strong, healthy cry echoed through the quiet house.

The private physician Silas had brought in from Switzerland gently wrapped the newborn in a soft white blanket and handed him to me.

He was perfect.

He had a thick tuft of dark hair, pale skin, and when his tiny eyelids fluttered open, he revealed deep, gray eyes that mirrored his father’s completely.

Silas sat on the edge of the bed, staring at his son as if he were looking at a miracle.

His large, calloused hand trembled as he reached out, gently touching the baby’s tiny fingers. Our son instinctively closed his hand around Silas’s thumb, holding on with a surprisingly firm grip.

Silas let out a ragged, emotional breath, tears welling in his eyes as he leaned down and pressed his forehead against mine.

"Thank you," Silas whispered, his voice cracking with a deep, overwhelming warmth. "Thank you, Clara."

"What are we naming him?" I asked softly, watching our son sleep against my chest.

May you like

Silas looked down at the baby, a quiet, resolute pride filling his face.

"Leo," Silas said softly. "Leo Vance."
