BEFORE THE SURGEON'S BLADE / Chapter 7 / 10

Chapter 7 - The Boardroom StormThree days later, Vivian sat up in her private room at Mass General. A white bandage wrapped neatly around her head, but her eyes were sharp, clear, and full of life.

Sitting in the armchair beside her bed was Noah, holding a laptop, while Lily adjusted Vivian’s pillows. News had just broken that Ethan Caldwell had convened an emergency shareholder meeting at Hartwell Biotech’s headquarters downtown to execute a hostile vote of no confidence against Vivian.

“He thinks because I’m in a hospital bed, I’m defenseless,” Vivian said, a fierce, determined smile touching her lips.

“You’re not going down there in your condition, Vivian,” Lily protested worriedly. “You had brain surgery seventy-two hours ago!”

“I don't need to be there in person, Mom,” Vivian replied, pulling the laptop onto her lap. “I just need a camera and an internet connection.”

At Hartwell Biotech’s glass skyscraper, the boardroom was packed with wealthy investors, board members, and journalists. Ethan stood at the head of the mahogany table, holding a microphone.

“Ladies and gentlemen,” Ethan announced smugly. “Due to Ms. Hart’s critical medical incapacity, she is unable to lead this firm. I motion for an immediate vote to remove her as CEO and approve our new pricing structure!”

Suddenly, the massive digital screens lining the boardroom wall flashed to life.

Vivian’s face appeared on screen, clear, confident, and commanding. The room gasped in collective shock.

“Good afternoon, members of the board,” Vivian’s voice echoed powerfully through the speakers. “Reports of my incapacity have been greatly exaggerated.”
