Chapter 7 - The Boardroom ConfrontationAt 8:45 AM the following morning, the top-floor executive boardroom of the Vance Tower Corporate Center in downtown Portland shone with bright, ruthless morning light.

A long glass table was surrounded by thirty high-ranking corporate executives, investors, and structural engineers.
At the head of the table sat Julian Blackwood, wearing a flawless thousand-dollar suit, a gold watch on his wrist, holding a leather folder. He was smiling broadly, taking sips of espresso, believing he was about to finalize the acquisition of my construction firm.
âGentlemen,â Julian announced smoothly, adjusting his tie. âDue to recent personal issues and management delays on Mr. Reyesâ part, his firm has failed to meet the structural compliance deadline for floor forty. Under our contract terms, my firm is prepared to step in and assume full operational control.â
The boardroom doors swung open with a loud, echoing crack.
I walked down the center aisle wearing my tailored dark suit, my posture straight as iron, my eyes calm, sharp, and commanding total authority.
Beside me walked Marcus Vance, accompanied by two federal prosecutors and three uniformed FBI agents.
Behind us walked Samantha, wearing a simple navy dress, her face pale but her chin held high.

Julianâs smile instantly frozen. His face drained of every drop of color as his eyes fell upon Samantha and the federal agents.
âDaniel?â Julian stammered, his voice losing its polished arrogance. âWhat... what is the meaning of this? This is a private board meeting!â
