Chapter 9 - The Human EquationSpring arrived in Minnesota, melting the heavy snowdrifts and giving way to green lawns and blooming wildflowers.

The atmosphere at Northstar Industrial Systems had transformed completely. Morale was at an all-time high, safety records reached historic peaks, and productivity soared under Nicole’s compassionate, visionary leadership.
In Delano, Julian’s house was no longer just a sanctuary for two.
Nicole spent nearly every weekend at the small house, trading her high heels for comfortable jeans and sweaters. She helped Julian plant a vegetable garden in the backyard and spent hours drawing pink cats with Rosie on the living room floor.
Rosie adored Nicole, often holding her hand as they walked to the local ice cream shop.
One warm Saturday evening, Julian held a backyard barbecue for the maintenance crew and their families. The yard was filled with laughter, the smell of grilled steaks, and children running through the grass.
Dale walked up to Julian, holding a bottle of lemonade, looking over at Nicole, who was currently helping Rosie swing on a tire under the oak tree.

“You know, Julian,” Dale said, shaking his head with a wide grin. “When she first walked into the plant last year, I thought she was made of ice. Now... I think she’s the best thing that ever happened to this company. And to you.”
Julian smiled, looking at the woman he loved. “She’s not made of ice, Dale. She just needed somewhere warm to land.”
