WARMTH IN THE BLIZZARD / Chapter 7 / 10

Chapter 7 - Standing Against the ColdThe day of the crucial board vote arrived.

The glass conference room on the third floor was filled with high-ranking directors, corporate lawyers, and major shareholders. Martin Vance sat at the head of the table, wearing a triumphant smile as he prepared to present his motion to strip Nicole of her chief executive authority.

Nicole entered the room wearing her dark suit, her hair styled with flawless precision, but her eyes were no longer cold—they burned with fierce determination.

Behind her, carrying heavy boxes of documents, walked Julian and several senior plant supervisors.

“What is the meaning of this, Nicole?” Martin scoffed, gesturing arrogantly toward Julian. “This is an executive board meeting, not a union rally.”

“These men are the backbone of Northstar Industrial Systems, Martin,” Nicole declared, her voice ringing clear and powerful across the room. “And they have a right to be heard before you dismantle their lives.”

Nicole took her place at the podium, opening her presentation. Instead of cold financial statistics, she presented an alternative, comprehensive restructuring model that she and Julian had developed over the past two weeks.

By restructuring energy efficiency protocols, renegotiating supplier contracts, and cutting executive bonuses—starting with her own—Nicole demonstrated how Northstar could save twenty million dollars annually without firing a single maintenance or plant worker.

The board members began whispering among themselves, reviewing the meticulous figures.

Martin’s face turned pale with rage. “This is absurd! You’re risking shareholder profits for sentimental garbage!”
