WARMTH IN THE BLIZZARD / Chapter 10 / 10

Chapter 10 - Where Home BeginsA year after the great blizzard, autumn painted the trees around Delano in brilliant shades of amber, gold, and crimson.

On a crisp October afternoon, family, friends, and the entire maintenance crew gathered in the backyard of Julian’s house for a small, intimate wedding ceremony.

White string lights hung from the branches of the ancient oak tree, illuminating the garden.

Julian stood under the wooden arch he had built with his own hands, looking devastatingly handsome in a dark charcoal suit. Beside him stood Rosie, wearing a delicate white lace dress, holding a basket of yellow rose petals.

The music began, and Nicole walked down the aisle, holding a bouquet of autumn flowers. She wore a stunning, elegant ivory gown that flowed softly around her. Her dark hair was styled in soft waves, and her face radiated pure, radiant joy.

As she reached the arch, Julian took her hands in his, gazing into her eyes with deep, unshakeable devotion.

“A year ago, I was lost in a storm,” Nicole said softly during her vows, tears of happiness sparkling on her cheeks. “I thought strength meant building walls and standing alone. But you showed me that true strength comes from opening your heart, protecting others, and allowing yourself to be loved. You and Rosie gave me a home.”

Julian smiled, his voice rich with emotion. “I promised to keep you warm the night I found you in the snow, Nicole. Today, I promise to spend the rest of my life making sure you never feel cold again.”

They exchanged rings, and as the pastor declared them husband and wife, Julian pulled Nicole into his arms, kissing her passionately under the shower of rose petals tossed by a cheering Rosie.

The crowd erupted into cheers and applause.

That night, as the wedding reception winded down and guests danced under the glowing lights, Julian and Nicole stood together on the back porch, watching Rosie play happily with her friends.

Julian wrapped his arms around Nicole’s waist from behind, pulling her close against his chest as the cool autumn breeze blew past.

“Happy, Mrs. Bartley?” Julian whispered against her ear.

Nicole leaned back against him, closing her eyes in complete contentment, holding his calloused hands over her heart.

“More than happy, Julian,” Nicole smiled warmly. “I’m finally home.”
