Chapter 12 - Standing Their Ground
Despite the chaos, the ranch hands fought back with fierce loyalty. Having tasted Edith's cooking and found a true home at Grady Ranch, not a single cowboy turned and ran. Rafe landed a shot that dismounted the lead raider, while Coulter drove the remaining attackers back across the creek. By the time the sun began to rise over the eastern hills, the fire was extinguished, leaving only the charred remains of the storehouse. One wounded raider was captured alive, pinned beneath his fallen horse near the fence line.
