Chapter 8 - The Wedding by the Water

On a perfect, sun-drenched Saturday in June, Elena and I were married on the private lakefront terrace of our estate.
The arbor was draped in cascading white roses, blooming hydrangeas, and trailing ivy overlooking the calm, sparkling waters of Lake Michigan. Over two hundred of our closest friends, colleagues, and family doctors sat beneath the clear blue sky.
Elena walked down the stone aisle wearing a breathtaking custom ivory silk lace gown with a long, cathedral-length veil that caught the gentle summer breeze. She was the most stunning vision I had ever witnessed.
Lily stood beside us as the maid of honor, looking like a little princess in a blush-pink tulle dress with satin ribbons in her hair, holding the velvet ring box with immense pride.
"Lucas," Elena spoke during her vows, her voice resonant with love. "You took us from the darkest winter of our lives and built an empire of light and peace. I promise to love you, cherish you, and stand by your side through every season of our lives."

"Elena," I replied, placing the platinum band upon her finger. "You taught me that true power is not found in fear, but in the fierce, unconditional love of family. I vow to protect you, honor you, and cherish you with every breath I have, for all eternity."
When the officiant pronounced us husband and wife, I pulled Elena into my arms, lifting her off her feet as I kissed her beneath the warm summer sun, while our guests erupted into thunderous, joyful applause.
