Chapter 2 - The Market Woman's Secret

The ocean breeze on the La Jolla terrace was crisp and clean. Luke Weaver walked beside his wife to their understated luxury SUV, his heart racing, yet a slow, proud smile broke across his face.

"You pulled the tablecloth," Luke chuckled softly, opening the passenger door for her. "Twelve years of Sunday dinners, and you finally flipped the whole table."

"I took their insults for twelve years because of your father, Luke," Hannah said, breathing in the sea air. "But bringing my mother into their venom was the end."

For over a decade, the Weaver family had assumed Hannah’s life began and ended at a ten-foot wooden vegetable stall in Central Market. They had never bothered to look deeper.

What they didn't know was that Hannah's "little market stall" was merely the flagship retail testing kitchen for Sol y Tierra Artisanal Foods—a premier organic specialty brand that supplied over four hundred gourmet supermarket chains nationwide. What started as her parents' secret salsa and preserve recipes had transformed into a multi-million-dollar food manufacturing powerhouse.

Fifteen years earlier, rather than flaunting her wealth on designer clothes and country clubs, Hannah had partnered with top commercial real estate developers. Through Sterling Pacific Holdings, an anonymous blind trust managed by her corporate attorneys, Hannah had systematically bought up commercial properties across San Diego, La Jolla, and Century City.

She owned the retail strip housing L'Orangerie. She owned the state-of-the-art medical building where Jeffrey leased his private cardiology clinic. And she owned the 24-story glass skyscraper where Gemma’s law firm, Vance & Sterling LLP, held their primary executive offices.

Luke had known everything from the day they married. He had never cared about high society, choosing instead to work honestly as the head of logistics and warehouse operations for Hannah’s regional distribution network.

"What's in the envelope you left on the table?" Luke asked as they pulled onto the highway.

"A formal notice of commercial lease termination," Hannah replied calmly. "Effective at midnight."
