Chapter 8 - Breaking the Blackwell Chain

With the court order in hand, Daniel and I led the asset recovery team to the Blackwell family estate—the massive, sprawling mansion where Vivian had ruled for decades.
We walked through the grand halls, accompanied by federal marshals who were tagging the expensive paintings, the antique furniture, and the silver service for auction. It was a strange, satisfying feeling to see the physical manifestations of their arrogance being systematically packed into cardboard boxes.
Vivian stood in the center of the foyer, watching a worker carry out a massive crystal vase.
"You think you've won, Eleanor?" she whispered, her voice trembling with a mixture of rage and grief. "You've ruined my family. You've dragged our name through the mud. But you will never have our class."
"Class isn't something you can buy with stolen pension money, Vivian," I said, walking up to her. "Class is how you treat people when you think nobody is watching. And on my daughter's wedding day, you showed the world exactly how little class you really have."
I pulled a small, silver key from my pocket—the key to the safety deposit box where Vivian kept her prized diamond necklaces.

"These will be auctioned off tomorrow morning," I said, holding the key up. "The proceeds will go directly to the families of the construction workers your husband defrauded. Your legacy is officially settled."
Vivian didn't answer. She turned her back on me, walking slowly up the grand staircase as the marshals continued their work around her. The Blackwell chain had finally been broken, not by force, but by the cold, unshakeable power of the truth.
