Chapter 7 - The Hostile Audit

The next morning, the federal court held an emergency hearing to appoint a receiver for Blackwell Holdings. Because of my firm's extensive work in exposing the fraud, the judge appointed Hayes Forensic Analysis as the official auditor to oversee the liquidation of their remaining assets.

I sat at the prosecution table, flanked by Daniel and our legal team. Across the aisle, Vivian and Carter sat with their high-priced lawyers, who looked increasingly uncomfortable as the stack of evidence on our table grew.

Vivian looked at me, her eyes filled with a desperate, venomous hatred. She still wore her designer suit, but without her wealth, her elegance looked like a cheap costume.

The federal prosecutor stood up, displaying the transaction flowcharts I had compiled.

"Your Honor," the prosecutor said, "the evidence shows a twenty-year pattern of systematic embezzlement, money laundering, and tax evasion orchestrated by Vivian Blackwell and carried out by her son, Carter. They used their company’s employee pension fund as a personal piggy bank, leaving hundreds of retired workers with nothing while they lived in absolute luxury."

The Blackwell defense attorney tried to argue that the audits were flawed, but his arguments were weak, easily dismantled by the airtight financial ledgers we had secured.

The judge didn't hesitate.

"The court hereby orders the immediate seizure of all Blackwell family assets, including their personal real estate, vehicle fleets, and offshore holdings," the judge declared, his gavel striking the wooden block with a sound that felt like a bell of justice. "The assets will be liquidated under the supervision of Hayes Forensic Analysis to restore the stolen employee pensions."

As the court officers moved in to serve the papers, Vivian slumped in her chair, her face turning a ghostly shade of grey. Carter bury his face in his hands, his shoulders shaking as he finally realized his golden life was over.
