Chapter 3 - THE COMPROMISED ACCOUNTS AND THE CRACKED PASSWORDS

The digital sabotage escalated dramatically by five o'clock that evening when an unauthorized attempt was made to log into my secure personal email using an obsolete password I hadn't utilized since college. Within hours, alerts flooded my phone indicating security breaches across my primary bank accounts, retirement fund, and cloud storage. The password recovery security questions—my first pet's name, my mother's maiden name, and our high school mascot—were locked behind information known only to a tiny handful of people from my past.

Nathan and I sat at my kitchen table until three in the morning under the harsh yellow glow of fluorescent lights, surrounded by cold takeout containers and oily coffee mugs, frantically resetting authentication keys and locking down digital assets. When Nathan rubbed his bloodshot eyes and questioned whether Jasmine would really execute such a coordinated attack over a rejected job offer, I shook my head. The argument at the creamery hadn't triggered her malice; it had merely provided her with the catalyst and permission to enact a destruction she had secretly harbored for years.
