Chapter 12 - THE CONFRONTATION AT THE FRONT DOOR

The night of the break-in captured on my interior security camera culminated in a chilling, face-to-face confrontation when uniformed police officers breached my apartment while Jasmine was still inside ransacking the living room. As heavy boots pounded down the hallway, the smart display by my front door broadcasted live footage of Jasmine turning around in shock, dropping her crowbar against the marble floor as flashlights swept across the room.

Stepping out of my bedroom in my silk robe, I watched through the glass partition as officers forced her to her knees, snapping cold steel handcuffs around her wrists. Jasmine caught sight of me standing calmly in the doorway, her face twisting in utter disbelief and betrayal. “Rachel—tell them it’s a joke! Tell them we’re best friends!” she shrieked, her perfectly styled blonde hair falling wildly across her face. I looked down at her with serene detachment, holding my phone displaying her arrest warrant. “We stopped being friends the moment you decided my life belonged to you,” I replied quietly.
