Chapter 5 - A Mother's LegacyTwo weeks later, the medical examiner’s report arrived. Elena’s death had not been natural heart failure; she had been systematically poisoned with micro-doses of a rare cardiac toxin—the very same chemical compound found in a safe box registered under Lorena’s maiden name.

Roberto collapsed behind his desk, crushed by the realization that his first love had been murdered by the woman he later invited into his home.
That evening, Roberto walked down to the kitchen, where María was preparing homemade chamomile tea for Leo.
"María," Roberto said softly, standing in the doorway with his hands in his pockets. "You saved my son's life. But more than that, you brought light back into a home that was consumed by darkness."
"Señor Roberto," María replied modestly, "I only did what any person with eyes and a heart would do."
"No," Roberto said firmly, stepping closer. "Dozens of doctors came through those doors. They saw a patient. You saw a suffering child. I want to offer you a permanent position—not as a nanny, but as the director of the new children's foundation I am establishing in memory of Elena."

María looked at him in surprise, her eyes shining with gratitude. "You would trust me with something so grand?"
"I would trust you with my life," Roberto said, his gaze lingering on her with deep admiration.
