Chapter 7 - Cracks in the SchemeSimone looked at her lawyer with wide, panicked eyes. âMarcus! Tell him he can't do this! He promised me!â

Marcus Sterling was no longer looking arrogant. He was furiously flipping through his law books, realizing his five-hundred-dollar-an-hour retainer fee was about to go up in smoke.
âMr. Vance,â Sterling tried to salvage his position. âEven if the house and trust are separate property, my client is still entitled to fifty percent of the appreciation value of Wynn Construction!â
Arthur Vance smiledâa sharp, lethal expression that made Sterling wince.
âDocument number three,â Arthur said, sliding a thick, red-bound audit ledger across the table.
âThis is a certified forensic audit of the joint marital account for the past twelve months,â Arthur explained. âIt details twenty-two thousand four hundred dollars in unauthorized withdrawals executed by Simone Wynn to fund non-marital expensesâincluding hotel suites in Miami, private escrow transfers to Nevis, and luxury gifts for a third party named Andre Tilman.â
Simone gasped, clutching her diamond necklace as if she were choking. âCaleb... I... I didn't know...â
I stood up slowly, placing both hands on the conference table, leaning forward to look directly into her terrified brown eyes.
âYou didn't know I installed 4K security cameras above the garage, Simone,â I said softly. âI have seven high-definition video files showing Mr. Tilman entering my home while I was working night shifts in Atlanta.â
Simone bowed her head, tears spilling down her cheeks, her arrogant mask completely shattered into pieces.

âCaleb... please...â Simone whimpered, her voice breaking into a pathetic cry. âWe can talk about this privately! I made a mistake! I was confused!â
âYou weren't confused when you threw my suits onto the sidewalk,â I replied, my voice dropping into a razor-sharp, quiet register. âYou weren't confused when you hid the blue folder under your design magazines. You were greedy.â
