Chapter 6 - The Unsealed Deed“What is this?” Marcus Sterling frowned, reading over Simone’s shoulder.

“That,” Arthur Vance explained calmly, “is the certified probate inventory of the Amos Wynn Legacy Trust, executed forty-eight hours prior to your client throwing Mr. Wynn’s clothes off the balcony.”

Sterling’s eyes widened as he read the numbers listed under total liquid and real estate holdings: $800,000,000.

Simone’s jaw dropped. The color drained from her face so fast she looked like she was about to faint.

“E-Eight hundred million?!” Simone gasped, her voice cracking into a high pitch. “Caleb... you... your uncle was a farmer!”

“My great-uncle was a land trust investor,” I corrected her quietly, keeping my voice dead level. “And under Georgia state law, inherited assets held within a pre-established bloodline trust are eighty-percent protected from marital division.”

Sterling cleared his throat nervously, leaning toward his client. “Simone... if this trust is pre-established, we have zero legal claim to any portion of those funds.”

“That’s impossible!” Eleanor, Simone’s mother, shouted, slamming her hand on the table. “They’re married! Half of everything belongs to my daughter!”

“Not under Georgia law, ma'am,” Arthur Vance countered, pulling the second document from his briefcase and sliding it across the glass.

“Document number two,” Arthur announced. “The original title deed for the townhouse at 1420 Oakridge Lane.”

Simone stared at the paper.

[PROPERTY TITLE: SOLE OWNER — CALEB WYNN TRUST. PURCHASE DATE: 14 MONTHS PRIOR TO MARRIAGE.]

“You bought the house before we were married?!” Simone stuttered, her fingers shaking as she held the deed. “You told me it was ours!”

“I paid the down payment from my personal pre-marital savings account,” I replied. “Your name was never added to the deed, Simone. You were a permissive occupant.”
